Bath and Bristol String Quartet, for weddings and corporate events in Avon, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Somerset
- Congratulations Laura and Nicholas
The first weekend of July saw our first visit to Stanton Manor near Chippenham, to play for the wedding of Laura and Nicholas. The couple had personalised their wedding by choosing music for Laura’s entrance, but had left the other choices to our discretion. We knew that Nina Simone’s classic “My Baby Just Cares for Me” was one of their particular favourites, so we surprised the newlyweds by playing a special arrangement of this as they left the ceremony!
We then played other pop song arrangements and jazz standards out on the lawn whilst guests mingled with Pimms and watched the photos being taken of the happy couple. Several young children came to watch us playing up close - and seemed particularly mesmerized by the size and sound of Dury’s cello!
- A new Gloucestershire venue
Congratulations to Tom and Pam who were married in St Margaret’s Church on 28th June. The couple had chosen a Beatles theme to some of their music choices, so they walked out to ‘All You Need is Love’ at the end of the ceremony. We then relocated to the Tithe Barn in Stanway to play for the couple’s arrival from church. Guests mingled with drinks on the lawn whilst we performed their choices of other pop and jazz pieces. This was the Quartet’s first visit to the Tithe Barn, and we like everyone else were amazed by the spectacular fountain close to the Barn - we thought we should perhaps have included selections from Handel’s ‘Water Music’ to suit the stunning display!
- Congratulations to Anna and Rhodri!
On June 21st we played for the wedding of Anna and Rhodri at St John’s Church in Bath. Anna had chosen to walk in to Pachelbel’s Canon in D, and the sunlight poured in to follow her down the aisle which made for a wonderful entrance! The couple had also chosen some of their favourite pop songs to be played whilst they signed the registers after the formal part of the ceremony was over. We then moved to the charming setting of Priston Mill Watermill to play for the happy couple and their guests as they arrived from church, keeping the music upbeat with more from our jazz and pop repertoire.
We have since received a lovely thank-you letter from Anna and Rhodri, and we feel touched by their gratitude that our music helped to make their day special.
- The Database Group Ltd, Summer Ball
The evening of June 21st found us at the Bristol Royal Marriott Hotel to entertain staff from The Database Group Ltd for their annual Summer Ball. We donned our best dinner jackets and evening dresses for this glamorous black-tie event, and performed classical music to greet people arriving for the drinks reception, following this with light summery jazz music during dinner.
- Our first visit to Lower Slaughter
Many congratulations to Phoebe and Tariq who held their wedding in the exquisite Lower Slaughter Manor in the heart of the Cotswolds. It was the first time the Quartet had played here, and we were very impressed! After playing for Phoebe and Tariq’s ceremony we moved outside under the shade of an enormous tree so that we could play for the couple’s guests whilst they had photos taken in the grounds of the stunning Manor.
- Reception at St Pierre, Chepstow
Congratulations to Angela and Andrew who held their wedding reception at St Pierre in Chepstow. The Quartet played outside on the lawn to greet the newlyweds as they arrived from church, before moving into the hallway to play as drinks were served. It was a busy afternoon at St Pierre, so many of the Hotel’s other residents were also able to enjoy our music as wedding guests mingled in the lounge.
- Congratulations Vicky and Andy
We made a welcome return to the secluded setting of Cripps Barn near Bibury to play for the wedding reception of Vicky and Andy. Although the weather was less than summery there was plenty of room in the marquee and several guests requested our pop song arrangements during the afternoon.
- Summer sunshine
Congratulations to Joanne and David who married in the beautiful Tortworth Court on 7th June. We played the couple’s personal choices during the marriage ceremony, then entertained their guests on the lawn whilst Jo and David had photos taken in the grounds. They had obviously brought the good weather with them from Australia!
