Military Dinner at Tidworth Barracks, Wiltshire

We were delighted to be booked by The Royal Horse Artillery for their annual summer formal meal and Dining Out ceremony. We performed sets of classical and jazz music as each course was served, and included carefully timed breaks for speeches and tributes to officers leaving the Mess. It was a wonderful evening, and lovely to be so warmly received by everyone in the Mess.

Summer Ball at Tortworth Court

We were delighted to be booked again by the Database Group for their annual Summer Ball, this year held in the beautiful Tortworth Court near Bristol. We greeted guests with some sumptuous classical music, and then helped the atmosphere become more relaxed by moving into some jazz to accompany dinner.

Music for Formal Dinner – String Quartet in Cheltenham

It may have been a frosty start to 2009, but the Ardeton String Quartet don’t let a little snow get in our way.

It was a frosty Tuesday evening when we set off for Faithfull House in Cheltenham. The car thermometer may have said it was -3 centigrade, and the snow still on the ground seemed to confirm this, but we soon warmed the hearts of the residents at the retirement home.

At 6pm the guests arrived for dinner and were met by a gentle backdrop of classical music. As dessert was served, however, we had quite a few people around us singing along to Cole Porter and Frank Sinatra hits, with others running an informal version of ‘name that tune’ in the corner of the room. In the end the guests kept us playing so long there was no time for the raffle!

Corporate function for Schlumberger

On 23rd July we were booked by Heirs and Graces to play for a reception being held by the Schlumberger company. This prestigious event was held in honour of the company’s president and his invited guests from all over the world, at new premises in Ston

ehouse. We performed a mixture of classical and jazz music whilst the guests enjoyed champagne and canapes before heading elsewhere for an evening banquet.

Corporate function at Woodchester Mansion

During the evening of 11th July we performed at a business function for Aberlink Ltd, in the stunning gothic setting of Woodchester Mansion near Stroud. This half-finished, haunted Mansion is an incredible setting for music – with its bare stone walls and no internal walls or ceilings our music resonated round every room!

We greeted Aberlink’s clients with a selection of classical music as they arrived for a drinks reception and tour of the Mansion, and followed this with a mixture of lively jazz and pop arrangements during dinner. Some guests played a game of trying to guess what we would play next, and the building came to life with our music and the lively mood of the guests. It was a fantastic evening which we all really enjoyed – and our viola player Jan was even brave enough to go on the ghost tour once we had finished our performance!

The Database Group Ltd, Summer Ball

The evening of June 21st found us at the Bristol Royal Marriott Hotel to entertain staff from The Database Group Ltd for their annual Summer Ball. We donned our best dinner jackets and evening dresses for this glamorous black-tie event, and performed classical music to greet people arriving for the drinks reception, following this with light summery jazz music during dinner.

Playing for Life!

The end of September saw the Ardeton Quartet playing in the grounds of Ashton Court Mansion for the Cancer Research 10k Race. Wrapped up warm in many layers, we played a mixture of our most up-beat and lively repertoire at the 5k halfway-point, to inspire the runners to continue on their way to complete the Race and raise lots of money! Many of the runners clapped, cheered and shouted their Thanks as they ran past – though to be honest we were just as inspired by their determined efforts! Congratulations to all who took part, it was a fantastic morning!

Corporate Soiree at The Pride of the Valley Hotel

Drinks Reception for relaunch of the Pride of the Valley Hotel, Farnham, Surrey.

The Ardeton String Quartet were asked to perform at a drinks reception held by the Pride of the Valley Hotel for specially invited guests. The weather meant we were inside a marquee, but the champagne and food were plentiful, and the guests enjoyed an opportunity to hear the quartet play in such close proximity. The quartet even appeared in a write-up about the event in a local magazine!
